Choosing the Right Bowling Ball

If you want to obliterate your friends in bowling, you’re going to need the right ball. Choosing the right bowling ball can make a huge difference for your game and give you a competitive edge over those who don’t know what they’re looking for. Even if you’re using one of the lane’s balls, you can still make a good choice.
What Matters in a Bowling Ball?
It may seem like something you can just grab and start throwing, but if you want to be good and you want to beat your friends while bowling with us at Zone 28, there’s a few things to consider. These factors include the ball’s weight, hole placement, and materials. If you’re looking to become a regular or professional bowler, there’s even more to consider! But we’re going to focus on the more casual bowler.
Picking the Right Bowling Ball Weight
This can be simple, it has to be light enough that you can lift it and heavy enough that you can use it. If a ball is too light for you it could just drift lazily down the lane, useless and dull. You should be able to stretch your arm out and have someone hand you the ball. This shouldn’t hurt. The weight shouldn’t pull you off balance. However you should feel it. The ball should put some kind of pressure and strain on your arm to know it’s powerful enough.
Picking the Right Bowling Ball Hole Placement
Even if you find the perfect weight, it does you no good if you can’t properly grasp it with the holes. Try the ball out a few times. Hook your fingers in and fake some test throws. Is your hand stretched out too much or too little? Can you release it easily enough, but not too easily? You don’t want it tight on your fingers but they can’t be falling out either.
The same goes for the size of the holes. If they’re too tight, your ball won’t release properly and will wind up just hurting your fingers. If the holes are too loose, you won’t have the right control over the ball as it leaves your hand. Finding the right hole size might take you a minute, but you’ll ultimately have more fun when you start kicking everyone’s butt.
What's Your Bowling Ball Made Of?
You don’t need a detailed materials list for casual play. Basically, you need to understand how the material of the ball reacts with lane and the pins. Does it slide, grip, spin etc? And which is best for you. How do you throw? Are you a curveball type? You need a ball that can do that. The most important thing is to test it out. Once you know how to use your chosen ball...look out world!
