Escape Rooms: The Perfect Team Building Activity

How would you describe your company culture? Relaxed? Formal? Trendy? Classic? Every company has its own culture, which can be seen as its personality. A company culture signals to recruits, customers or clients what to expect with the business and if it’ll be a good fit.
While there aren’t “right” and “wrong” company cultures, there are healthy and unhealthy ones. If your team isn’t connecting in a healthy way, the repercussions will be felt throughout the company. It’ll even be felt by those with whom you do business. So how do you make sure your team is connecting and collaborating well? How can you improve these skills?
Our suggestion: an escape room! Here’s why:
Problem Solving
No matter how hard you hustle, problems are inevitable. You’ve got so much going on at all times, so it’s understandable that things fall through the cracks. Maybe you have a client who has an emergency and needs you on board immediately. Either way, your team needs to be able to step up to the plate when a problem makes its way to them.
Problem solving is the very focus of escape rooms. Your team will be placed in a room where they must solve a series of problems before time runs out. They must think quickly and don’t have time to do anything but focus on the task on hand. This is valuable training for in the workspace.
Creative Thinking
To reach new heights, you need new ideas. You can’t think like you always have in order to go in a different direction with your business. That’s why creative thinking is so important. It’s a muscle that must be flexed in order to stay strong. But that’s hard to do with all the deadlines and the routine of the day-to-day.
Escape rooms require creative thinking in order to succeed. Your team will be thrown into a situation unlike anything they’re used to, and they will be expected to find creative ways to solve the puzzle. They must exercise parts of their brains that aren’t usually used on a day-to-day basis.
Teamwork
Is your team working well together? Is there cohesion between departments? Each business is filled with different personalities and employees working toward smaller goals within their departments so the business can reach bigger goals. However, these personalities can clash, and it’s easy to get wrapped up in what you’re doing instead of focusing on how it’ll fit with other departments.
That’s not something that can be applied to escape rooms. Everyone must work together, and each participant is just as important as the others. Teammates who barely get to work together on the job will get to interact closely and grow.
