Update (3/13/2020): The 2020 basketball tournament has been cancelled. Make sure to bookmark this post for next year! : )
It’s that time of the year! This Sunday marks the beginning of the basketball tournament that shall not be named in this blog. You know the one we’re talking about, right? The one where all your friends invest their time and emotional energy into brackets. They talk stats, players and all the basketball terminology that sounds less recognizable than French to you.

You don’t follow basketball, so does that mean you ostracize yourself from your friend group this month? Do you go into a month-long hibernation and peek your head out once all the chaos passes?

No!

You create your own bracket doing what you do best—winging it. So without further ado, here are our best tips for creating a bracket this month if you have little to no basketball knowledge.

Pick based on your favorite colors

No, we’re not kidding. ROYGBIV it.

Listen, as we’ve established above, you know nothing about basketball. You’re not doing this to show off your basketball knowledge—let’s be honest, there’s not much there. You want to participate in this bracket creation so you can spend time with your friends.

While you don’t understand much about basketball, everyone knows colors. Pick your teams based off of your favorite colors. You never know, maybe your top team will still win!

Jump on the bandwagon

See the bandwagon. Run toward it. Jump on it. Hold on for dear life. See where it takes you!

It’s not challenging to do a little research (we’re talking like five to 10 minutes, tops) to see what others are saying about these teams. You can also be the quiet observer leading up to the tournament while others discuss their obsession with who they believe to be the “best team.”

However you choose to approach this strategy, just keep your ears open, absorb the information and cross your fingers they know the sport of which they speak better than you do.

Dig deep into personal connections

You don’t know much about basketball but might still have some form of connection with one of the teams playing. Are they located near the city where you live or grew up? Did you go to that university? Did your significant other? Maybe their mascot just so happens to be your favorite animal. Think of any way you can trick your friends into believing you have a deep-rooted connection with a team playing.

Go sportsball!

Watch (next year's) tournament at Zone 28!

It doesn’t matter if you are a diehard basketball fan or not—participating is fun! After you fill out your bracket, come watch (next year's) tournament at Zone 28’s End Zone Sports Bar.
