Players in the blacklit laser tag arena at Zone 28 in Pittsburgh

Here is everything worth knowing before your first game: how it works, who can play, and how to win.

The arena

Zone 28's laser tag arena is a 3,000-square-foot blacklit battlefield inside our 50,000-square-foot entertainment complex on Freeport Road in Pittsburgh. The lights go down, the black lights come up, and the vests glow. Up to 30 players can play in a single game — enough for a whole birthday party, a class trip or an office split into two teams.

How a game works

  1. Check in at the front desk. Walk-ins are welcome. Coming with a group? Call ahead so we can have the arena ready.
  2. Get the briefing. Our team walks everyone through the vests, the rules and how scoring works before you go in.
  3. Suit up. Vest on, phaser in hand. Tag your opponents to score — and try not to get tagged yourself.
  4. Play. Games run about 15 minutes: long enough to learn the arena, short enough that everyone wants a rematch.

Who can play?

Laser tag is one of the few games where an eight-year-old and their parent are on genuinely even terms, which is why it works so well for families, teens and adult groups alike. The arena is wheelchair accessible.

What to wear

Comfortable shoes you can move in — you will be on your feet the whole game. Dark clothes aren't required, but in a blacklit arena, white glows. Draw your own conclusions.

Five ways to win

  • Stick with your team. Two players covering each other beat one hero every time.
  • Use the cover. The arena is built to be moved through, not stood in.
  • Keep moving. A standing target is an easy target.
  • Talk. Call out where the other team is.
  • Pick your battles. Chasing one player across the arena leaves your team one short.

Make a day of it

Laser tag is one part of Zone 28. Between games there are 33 bowling lanes, 88+ arcade games, two escape rooms, the Rail House Restaurant and the End Zone Sports Bar — all under one roof. See everything on our Entertainment page.

Laser tag for parties and groups

  • Birthday parties — every package includes a private party room, a dedicated party hostess, pizza and unlimited soft drinks, and our Laser Zone package is built around the arena. See birthday packages.
  • Groups of 15 or more — the Laser Storm group package gives your group two games plus an arcade game card each. See group packages.
  • Teams at work — team building packages start at 10 people, any day we're open.
  • School and camp groups — call us at 412-828-1100 to plan a trip.
